Get your manuscript edited professionally at reasonable rates!

If it is a novel, please send each chapter as a separate word document typed in Arial 10 pt, double spaced, left aligned, with single space after full stops. If it’s a collection of short stories, each story must be a separate word document. Please follow the same pattern for a general non-fiction MS too. (But no poetry, drama, coffee-table books, or academic books, please!)

The services involve:
Substantive editing + copy-editing

My focus is on substantive editing (content) as well as copy-editing. I offer feedback on all areas of your manuscript (MS) such as plot, character, setting, scene, dialogue, language, organization, pace, etc, in case of fiction; and length, organization, language, flow, description/colour, metaphor, setting, fact-checking, etc, in case of non-fiction. I help with rewriting, fleshing out matter where required, and eliminating verbosity and irrelevant material. I make my best effort that the feedback covers all aspects that will help the author with his/her future works as well.

The charges are Re 1/word. This includes two rounds of editing, and occasionally a middle round (if required).

The first round includes detailed feedback (comments in boxes in the margins) and copy-editing on the MS. The MS is sent back to the author with tracked changes.

After the author has reworked the MS based on the feedback, the final edit is done. In case there are more changes required after the revised draft comes back from the author, another round of feedback is given – i.e., additional comments without copy-editing. (In case the author insists upon copy-editing in this ‘middle’ round, the same charges apply, otherwise there’s no additional cost.)

After the author has fixed the MS the second time, the final round of editing is done and the author receives a clean MS.

The middle round is required only occasionally. Most projects go through the first edit and then the final edit. The turn-around time is approx 30 working days for a 50,000-word MS.

Payment

The charges are Re 1/word. It includes a first edit (substantive and line editing on the original script), and a final edit (after the changes have been carried out by the author). The payment can either be made in advance or in stages.

Sample edit

A sample edit on 500 words of the MS can be sent to the author upon request.

 

Submission Guidelines

What you need to send:

  1.  A synopsis (not more than one side of an A4 sheet).
  2. The complete script — with the word count, name, postal address, email ID, and phone no. mentioned clearly on the first page.
  3. If it is a novel, each chapter must be sent as a separate word document typed in Arial 10 pt, double spaced, left aligned, with single space after full stops.
  4. If it’s a collection of short stories, each story must be sent as a separate word document. You can make submissions by email.
  5. A short author bio (about 100-150 words).
  6. Please submit a manuscript only if it is complete.
